Primeur 2010 : Robert Parker, Neal Martin, James Suckling, Decanter and others comments

The Wine Advocate - issue 194 may 2011. Robert Parker

 Rating : 96-100

"Since the wunderkind team of Nicolas Thienpont and Stephane    Derenoncourt assumed responsibility for this extraordinary vineyard planted on the clay and limestone southern slopes of St.-Emilion, quality has soared. The 2009 (rated 96-98+) was the greatest vintage since the estate’s prodigious 1990 and the 2010 looks to be its equal. Composed of 73% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Franc and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon made from tiny yields of 21 hectoliters per hectare, the 2010 achieved a remarkably high 15% natural alcohol. However, the high alcohol is completely hidden by the wine’s freshness, high acids and modest pH. A remarkable nose of blueberries, blackberries, crushed chalk, acacia flowers, licorice and truffles is accompanied by an unbelievable minerality on the palate, full-bodied power, amazing texture, a multidimensional personality and a 50+ second finish. One of the most profound wines of the vintage, this 2010 should drink well for 30-35 years or more. "

James Suckling

Rating : 98-99

“Clearly the best wine from here since 1989 or 1990. The intensity of dark fruits is insane with citrus and flowers as well as dark fruits. Full and lively with a finish that lasts for minutes but it is dense and impressive.

The Wine Spectator – posted march 31, 2011 – James Molesworth

  Rating : 93-96

“Ripe and exotic, but focused, with really enticing blueberry, violet, pastis and raspberry aromas and flavors. Lush and long, with lots of range and length."

"Derenoncourt from 2009. Very dark crimson. Much lighter than the Villemaurine 2010 I have just tasted. Easy with much less of the exaggerated framework that characterises most of Stéphane Derenoncourt’s 2010s though it is a relatively tough wine."

The 2005 and 2009 vintages in the Luxembourgian press
> Press Review

Claude François, the journalist-taster from Luxembourg and chief editor of the magazine "Telecran", came to taste the 2005 and 2009 vintages in early July and has just released his ratings.

The 2009 vintage of Beauséjour hDL earned a score of 18/20 and the following description: "A lovely, spicy nose, with cinnamon and a little clove. Very ripe, almost sweet. An extremely juicy wine, crisp and pleasant. The alcohol is there, but it contributes to the wine. Magnificent."
As for the 2005 vintage, it earned a rating of 17/20 and the following assessment: "Very fragrant nose, redolent of rose. A touch of hazelnut and almond, a lovely fruitiness of blueberry and blackberry. A very fresh wine and a beautiful bottle. Only the finish is a little rough, lacking somewhat in precision."

The 2000 and 2001 vintages praised by the magazine "Decanter"
> News

Beauséjour hDL garnered particular praise, earning a score of 18.5/20 for its 2000 vintage and 16/20 for its 2001 vintage. Here is what Hugo Rose, Master of Wine, had to say :
Millésime 2000 : "Still holding back. Restrained berry fruits matched with discreet spice. Chocolate, dark fruits and burnished spice palate. Concentration is rewarding : structure reassuring. Compelling. From 2012"
Millésime 2001 : " Restrained fruit and spice. Ripeness and sleek oak evident. Cabernet comes through. Concentrated and firm. From 2011"

The July 2010 issue of the British magazine published the results of a tasting of two older wines: the 2000 and 2001 vintages. This tasting was carried out in Great Britain subsequent to the sending of bottles last December, along with the 2007 bottled vintages. The tasting concerned the best classed wines of the Médoc region and the Premiers Grands Crus Classés of Saint-Émilion.
The three experienced palates and connoisseurs of our wines who rendered their verdict following two blind tastings (one for each vintage) were: Steven Spurrier, Stephen Brook and Hugo Rose (MW).
